Nikon COOLPIX P7100 review

This is the ultimate camera if you are looking for a DSLR-like experience in a pocket size form. With a weight of only 395g carrying this camera was a luxury versus my Nikon D3s (1410g) which I normally use.

I decided to opt for a compact camera for my holiday in London, during September 2013. This was a difficult choice to make, since I love taking pictures with my D3s. This was a good replacement choice, for a holiday though.

What makes the Nikon Coolpix P7100 (10.1-megapixel) excellent is the functionality is almost like a professional camera. With the option to shoot RAW files, the ability to choose different professional modes (Manual, Program, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority) and the freedom to choose your own ISO the user has more control of the final image.

With a fantastic lens that ranges from f2.8 for wide angle (28mm) and f5.6 at telephoto (200mm) the deal is sealed since this is extraordinary for a point and shoot camera.

The battery life is very good if you don’t use the built-in flash regularly. Digital noise becomes evident at higher ISO values and I would not suggest using it above ISO 800 if possible. The positive aspect on the other hand is the ability to avoid pushing your ISO high as a result of  the image stabilization that really does seem to make a difference at low light and slow shutter speeds.

Other features that I enjoyed was the 99 Manual Focus Areas and the option to use flash intensity manually (1/1 etc)
